Waxing at home, using a simple recipe, will provide you the same silky-smooth results as a professional wax job—-minus the price tag. It’s also better alternative to waxing kits available at drug stores because those, too, will cost more.
A few ingredients commonly found in any home will get rid of any unwanted hair and leave you money left over to indulge in a mani/pedi.
The common ingredients listed below are all you need. You’ll also need waxing strips and a few Popsicle sticks.
- Water
- 4 chamomile tea bags
- 2 saucepans
- 2 cups of sugar (white or brown)
- 2 tbsp. of fresh lemon juice
- Spoon
- Glass bowl
- Popsicle sticks
- Waxing strips
Step 1
Fill a saucepan with water and bring to a boil, then remove from heat. Place the four chamomile bags into the saucepan and let it steep for about 30 minutes. Then, remove and discard tea bags.
Step 2
Take a second saucepan. Pour into it 1½ cups of water and ½ cup of the chamomile tea.
Step 3
Mix in 2 cups of sugar and 2 tablespoons of the fresh lemon juice. Stir well until the sugar is dissolved.
Step 4
Take this mixture and heat over medium-high heat, stirring until it boils. Continue stirring and boiling for a few minutes or until you see the mixture turn a slightly dark color. Remove from the heat and transfer to a glass bowl.
Step 5
Before applying the wax directly onto your skin, make sure that it is at the right temperature to work but not to hurt you. If the wax is too cold you will not be able to spread it; but, if if it’s too hot, you run the risk of getting burned.
Step 6
Use a popsicle stick to spread it over the surface of the skin you wish to wax—make sure you spread it in the same direction as hair growth.
Step 7
After spreading the wax, immediately apply a waxing strip to the area, making sure that you press down firmly. You can help the wax stick better with a few strokes back and forth over the stip.
Let it stand for a few second then—using one quick motion—quickly pull off the strip in the direction opposite to the hair growth.
Tips To Get the Most of Your At-Home Waxing Experience
Before waxing, make sure to clean the area and then sprinkle a little bit of baby powder.
Make sure that the hair length is appropriate for waxing. For example, hair that is too short will not be removed by the wax because there is not much to adhere to. On the other hand, hair that is too long, you may have to wax the area repeatedly, which will cause you unnecessary pain and may irritate the skin; try trimming it first.
After you’re done waxing the area, apply your favorite moisturizer to the area.
