Don’t worry! This is a completely common stage in your life and that is to have your face, back, and chest breakout in acne. Don’t be fooled by the acne myths, also discussed in our blog, The Truth About Acne. This is just a phase caused by a conglomerate of factors, but surely a phase that will pass!
For teens, this is high time for your hormones to surge causing an outbreak of breakouts. It’s also an important time to treat your face properly and not worsen its condition! This means not to pick and pop your pimples as this will lead to scarring and even worsen acne.
Causes And Prevention Of Teen Acne:
- Scrubbing your face harshly with rough textured washcloths or loofahs can irritate your skin. Also skin to skin contact from your hands to your face is a big no no. This transfers various kinds of bacteria and dirt to your face and contributes to the formation of acne.
- Make sure to remove your makeup/wash your face before a workout and after to wipe away any remnant sweat. Also as a routine, wash your face morning and night so you can properly exfoliate and cleanse your pores.
- Use fresh, sharp razors as this will eliminate the amount of razor burn and ingrown hairs. This is why it is also important to shave gently.
- Benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid are the main ingredients contained in topical creams to treat acne. Most acne cleansers can be found at your local drugstore, but if you experience severe forms of acne, it may behoove you to seek a dermatologist’s or esthetician’s advice. They will assess your skin and decide which topical medication will be best suited to treat your acne.
Remember if you’re switching to a new acne care regimen, it may take a couple months to see immediate results so be patient!
