If you have dry skin around your nose, you should know that it can be caused by a number of issues. Harsh chemicals and fragrances in your skincare products, soaps and makeup can strip oils and moisture from the area, leaving it irritated and flaky. Aging also takes a toll. As you get older, the oil glands in your skin stop working as efficiently, so the skin is less protected and more vulnerable to drying out. However, it’s not a skin condition that you just have to accept. With a little extra effort, you can minimize or eliminate unsightly dry nose skin.
Gentle Cleansing
Dirt and bacteria can cause dry skin through irritation as badly as harsh chemicals do. For this reason, you may wish to consider cleaning the area around your nose with a moisturizing cleanser. Olive, coconut and rose hip oils are hydrating and promote skin repair, so target products containing one of these. Simply wet the area around you nose, massage the cleanser in gently and wipe it away with a damp cloth. Follow up with an alcohol-free toner formulated for dry or sensitive skin.
Moisturize
When you’re finished with your facial cleansing routine, try applying a high-quality moisturizer that contains natural skin-supporters like botanical oils, vitamins and minerals. You should apply the moisturizer when your nose is nearly dry to help seal in additional moisture. You may also use the product before bed or anytime the skin around your nose becomes dry and itchy. It’s also recommended to use it before applying your makeup.
Remove Dead Skin
When skin becomes dry, it can start to look flaky due to the buildup of dead skin cells. At least once per week, but no more than twice weekly, use a mask that exfoliates and moisturizes. Apply the product, paying special attention to your nose area, and allow it to set for the length of time shown on the product’s label. Rinse your skin well with warm water and pat dry with a soft towel.
Stay Hydrated
A lack of water is one of your skin’s biggest enemies. If you consume a lot of caffeinated or sugary drinks, their diuretic effects can flush water from your body. This pulls water reserves from your skin, causing it to become dry. The effect is even worse if you live someplace with low humidity or high heat. Be sure to drink at least eight glasses of water each day, or more on days when you sweat a lot.
Use Sun Protection
The sun can also be brutal on your skin, especially if it’s fair or sensitive. Sunburns cause significant damage to skin, making it age faster and slowing its healing process. It also forces the moisture to evaporate from your skin, drying it out. When you expect to be spending time in the sun, be sure to apply a sunscreen designed for sensitive skin to your nose. This will protect the area from the sun without contributing to dryness. When possible, it’s also recommended to keep your face shielded from the sun by wearing a hat.
