Within the last few years, waxing has grown to become a very common–and widely used—service that is available at salons and spas. From eyebrows, armpit, upper lips or even those intimate areas; a lot of people prefer waxing for the long-lasting effects. However, to those who’ve never gone for waxing, don’t go any longer, as they’ve had a negative experience–it may seem like a daunting task. Experts chimed in and provided us with an inside scoop on waxing; everything from preparing the wax to the pain and then what types of results you can expect.
Preparing for a Wax
When you’re concerned about the pain, tackle a couple of ibuprofens an hour or so before the scheduled appointment. Experts suggest that you should exfoliate the morning before and then not apply lotion the day of your waxing appointment. Additionally, with regards to underarm waxing, experts also share that you should only use a deodorant without antiperspirant–as it comes off much quicker.
How Often to Wax
In the event that you’ve just shaven, wait around four or five days for your waxing. Though the time will differ between waxes and technicians, it really depends on just how fast or coarsely your unwanted hair grows back. It’s always better to simply wait around 30 days before returning, however waiting for at least three weeks between waxing is sufficient. Nonetheless, in case of an emergency; a date with a new sweetheart or if you’re heading out on vacation—three weeks in-between waxing is just fine.
What to Expect
First, the waxing technician will cleanse and disinfect the section that is to be treated. Next, they’ll apply the wax and then remove little areas of hair. Waxes come in a variety of forms; soft wax—which is applied and then removed with paper or even muslin strips; hard wax—which is extracted without using strips. We can use a hard or a soft wax for hair removal on various parts of the body – including common trouble spots such as chins, and lips. To learn more about our services for these common areas, visit:

The Pain Factor
Waxing is not as unpleasant as you might think. Discomfort will only be felt during the time of service and then ceases soon after. To make sure that your waxing is being performed correctly, you may want to examine the strips to make sure that the hair roots were removed—if so, you’ll probably notice a small, darkish bulb on the hair follicle.
Post-Wax Treatment
While the pain will subside once the wax treatment is over, the area will probably remain sensitive. Because of the sensitivity, you should not use any kind of scrub wash for approximately 48 after the waxing. It’s also advised that you not expose the waxed area to sunlight for at least a 24 hour period. If you need to treat any redness or inflammation–simply apply a quarter-sized amount of cortisone cream which can be purchased at your local drugstore.
Waxing Maintenance
Once all tenderness has subsided, you will need to exfoliate the waxed areas in the shower, as this will remove any dead skin–preventing the pores from becoming clogged and possibly causing ingrown hairs and raised bumps. If you notice any bumps, don’t pick, squeeze or tweeze the area as this could cause irritation and even infection.
Waxing Hygiene
Above all, be sure that you visit a salon or spa employing a proper sterilization procedure. Your technician should be licensed and must never use a double-dip technique while waxing. Double dipping signifies that the tech applies the same stick every time they dip into the vat of scalding wax. This action contaminates the wax and also enables harmful bacteria to pass on from one customer to another. Our spa puts a special emphasis on proper sterilization.
Lady Waxing
Although we recommend our bikini waxing or brazilian waxing services to anyone who is interested, our female clients always ask us about bikini vs. brazilian waxing, what some people might call, “lady waxing”. Bikini waxing is much like waxing the entire body. Brazilian-style bikini wax was popularized back in 1994 and since, has become a very popular way to prepare for the warmer weather.
The Benefits of Brazilian
A Brazilian wax rids your body of much more hair when compared to the standard bikini wax. A bikini wax targets the front and sides sections of the area—visible while you’re in a bikini—while the Brazilian removes most, if not allof the front, sides , the back and anywhere in-between. The Brazilian often leaves behind a mere strip of hair in the front section—or nothing at all. Our waxing hair removal services are always performed in an environment you feel comfortable with.
