Bikini line: the annoying area where we remove hair during the summer and frankly, all year long. Face it—we do not want to pull a Miranda Hobbes moment from Sex and the City. But, I know we are all wondering how long do bikini waxes last?
…In case you were confused about my mention of Sex and the City:
Samantha: “Jesus honey, wax much?”
Miranda: “What? I didn’t know I would be wearing a bathing suit.”
Charlotte: “What are you talking about?”
Miranda: “I forgot to wax, I have had other things on my mind.”
Samantha: “I could be on death row and not have that situation.”
How long does a bikini wax last?
When you get a wax you are removing the hair from the root instead of just shaving the top half of the hair. Removing the whole hair follicle will keep you smooth and hairless for typically 3-6 weeks. Everyone’s hair grows at different rates, so the actual time varies from person to person. However, the more you wax, the less hair you will have over time. Waxing will thin out your hair and slow the growth.
What Factors Affect Hair Growth?
- Growth Cycle:
Did you know that there are 3 stages of the hair growing cycle?- Growing Phase, which has 80-90% hair follicles at any given time.
- Resting Phase, which will have 2-3% at any time.
- Transitional Phase, which will have 10-15% at any given time.
Most people tend to have hair that has not reached the surface or has reached the surface; however, they are not long enough to be waxed, shaved, and/or tweezed.
- Personal Growth Cycle:
Different areas of our face and body have different timing and hair growth frequency. Our hair does not always spend the same amount of time in the growth cycle too. Our age, genetics, and hormones play a huge role in our own personal growth cycles. For example, some men may not be able to grow that much chest hair, while some need to wax or shave it frequently. Simply put, we are all different. - Seasoned Waxer:
If you are a seasoned waxer, then you will have changed the growing cycles. Waxing helps hair become infrequent, lighter, and much finer when you are waxing frequently. Some very lucky people even stop the hair growth completely! Keep your fingers crossed that you are that lucky! - Diet:
Our diets will affect our hair growth as well. If you are on a diet that is rich in Omega 3, then you will have wonderful hair, but need more waxes. We call this a catch 22! - Climate:
Temperature does affect our hair growth. Cold weather will decrease hair growth and warmer weather increases hair growth.
